The re-dedication ceremony for the Oswaldtwistle War Memorial will take place at 11.30am on Saturday June 27th 2009.

The event is linked to 'Armed Forces Day' where those who have served our country, past and present will be honoured.

The parade starts from Brookside Street and will proceed down Union Road to the war memorial on the corner of Rhyddings Street and Union Road.

There will then be a sort service before moving on to the Global Conference Centre for light refreshments. All are welcome to take part in any part of the event.

Friends of Rhyddings Park are to hold their Annual General Meeting at Hippings Vale Community Centre, Harvey Street on November 25th 2008. The meeting will start at 7pm and all are welcome.

The change of date from the 3rd Saturday in August to the 2nd Saturday in September has been a resounding success, with entries going up from 144 in 2007 to 266 in 2008, an increase of 122 almost doubling the amount of exhibits on display.

The quality of the Exhibits on the whole were some of the best we have seen for many years thanks to the dedicated exhibitors, and hopefully we can grow in strength in future years on the back of these results.

The Oswaldtwistle Gardens and Allotments Association held their 55th Annual show on Saturday August 13th. The standard of entries was excellent with beautiful blooms and giant vegetables. The Mayor of Hyndburn, Councillor Pam Barton, presented prizes for the best entries in each class.

The very talented St. Christopher's High School Choir and Jazz band will be entertaining visitors at Immanual Church Oswaldtwistle on Saturday September 13th at 7.30pm. Admission is £5 which includes supper. Children are free when accompanied by an adult.

The weather was kind to the Annual Hyndburn Mela which took place on Saturday August 23rd in bright sunshine. The colourful event took place at Hyndburn Sports Centre and was well attended. The many attractions included fairground rides, bouncy castles and slides and various stalls. Several bands were booked to entertain the crowds.

Bus services were disrupted by an accident which blocked Thwaites Road. A Blue Fiat Punto was badly damaged when it rolled over.
Police at the scene were unable to move the Punto.

Wednesday 22nd July around 7pm

Fire crews from Darwen and Nelson turned out to rescue bulls which had fallen into the canal near Oswaldtwistle's West End opposite the golf course.

By the time the fire brigade had arrived the bulls were out of the canal and fire fighters led them safely back to the field from which they had escaped.

The fire brigade could not get their appliances down narrow Aspen Lane and had to park on Blackburn Road opposite the Hare and Hounds.
